An alumnus of the University of Lagos, Ayodele Dada, who made history by being the first to graduate with a perfect score of 5.00 Cumulative Grade Point Average (C.G.P.A.), from the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences, in the 2014/2015 academic session, has been selected to benefit from the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program of Stanford University for 2019.

The scholar was announced on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, along with 68 students from around the world for the second cohort of scholars in the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program.

The Scholars program, which had its pioneer cohort of scholars in 2018, received over 4,000 applications this year, a considerable increase of 23% from 2018. Out of these numbers of applicants, Ayodele Dada of the University of Lagos and 68 other applicants emerged victorious.

The 69 successful students are citizens of 20 countries across the world. They will pursue degrees in 37 programs at Stanford University and receive full funding for graduate study at the University during the period of their scholarship.

The primary selection criteria used to evaluate applicants were:

Ayo Dada, during his scholarship at the School of Humanities and Sciences, Stanford University, aspires to find solutions to the problems of ethnic and gender prejudice and academic underachievement that plague Nigeria. He interned in security services at the Central Bank of Nigeria, and in business operations at Procter and Gamble. He was named one of Ten Outstanding Young Persons of Nigeria, and received special recognition for academic achievement by the National Assembly of Nigeria.

Ayodele Dada is presently pursuing a Ph.D. in Psychology at Stanford University, California, USA.
