The meeting is on going
The Federal Government has continued its negotiation with
the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) over
the ongoing industrial action by the union.
The meeting is ongoing at the conference room of the Ministry of Labour and Employment in Abuja.

National President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, led other striking
lecturers to the meeting which has the Minister of Labour and
Employment, Chris Ngige, in attendance.
The meeting began around 5:45 p.m.
In his opening address, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris
Ngige, said there is hope the meeting will be fruitful and conclusive.
”We hope the meeting will close the chapter in this imbroglio,” he said.
Also speaking, the national president of ASUU, Biodun Ogunyemi, said the union hopes the impending issues will be resolved.
”We need to get final clearance to make final pronouncement this evening, ” he said.
Meanwhile, ASUU in a statement Thursday evening said it will address journalists after the meeting.
Representatives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) are also present at the meeting.
Students are also said to be mobilising at the venue of the meeting
to protest any further delay in finding lasting resolutions to the
strike.
According to NANS, students have taken over both entrances to the venue.
